How this conversion works
US and EU scales measure different things: US sizes grade in barleycorns (⅓ inch) — the stepping that makes the US to UK conversion such a clean pair — while EU sizes use Paris points (⅔ cm) and include a functional allowance for the shoe's last. That is why no US↔EU mapping is perfectly clean — a US size covers a slightly different slice of foot length than an EU size.
Our engine converts through foot length: your US size resolves to a documented foot-length range, and the EU result is every EU size whose range overlaps it. When a US size falls between two EU sizes, both are shown — picking the larger one is usually more comfortable. The full size chart lays every system's boundaries side by side.
EU sizing is not gendered the way US sizing is: the nominal EU scale is shared across men's and women's footwear, although manufacturer labelling and fit can vary. US men's and US women's scales sit on different offsets over that nominal scale, which is why EU 42 is a US men's 9.5 but a US women's 11 in our neutral grid — and why any chart giving a single genderless 'US size' for an EU label is quietly picking a scale for you. The women's column in the table above makes the mapping explicit instead.
Manufacturer EU labels can also differ materially from the neutral technical grid: in our Nike/ASICS audit, some retail labels sat roughly 0.5 to 2 EU sizes above the technical relation — not at every size, and not for every brand, but enough that a converted EU label should be a starting point rather than a guarantee. Our neutral grid is relation-derived and has been audited against ISO 19407's technical conversion tables, while Nike's and ASICS's published charts document how real retail labels drift around that reference. Neither brand defines the EU scale; the boundary results we show (like EU 41 = US men's 8.5–9) are the honest consequence. When accuracy matters, measure your foot in centimetres — foot length is the one comparison point no label convention can move.

What is EU 42 in US shoe size?
EU 42 is a US men's 9.5 — or a US women's 11, since US women's sizing sits 1.5 sizes above the men's scale. In UK sizing that foot is an 8.5, and the foot length is about 26.7 cm.
What is EU 41 in US shoe size?
EU 41 lands on a boundary: US men's 8.5–9 (US women's 10–10.5, UK 7.5–8). Both candidates are shown rather than silently rounding — sizing up is usually more comfortable.
What is EU 43 in US shoe size?
EU 43 is US men's 10–10.5 — another boundary pair — with US women's 11.5–12 and UK 9–9.5. The converter above resolves it from your foot length and shows both candidates.
What is EU 39 in US women's?
EU 39 is a US women's 8.5–9 (a men's 7–7.5, UK 6–6.5). EU labels carry no gender, so the women's answer is simply where the US women's scale sits over the same 24.3–25.2 cm foot.

Is a US men's 9 the same as EU 42?
Very close. A US men's 9 corresponds to EU 42–42.5 in most charts. Because the two scales slice foot length differently, a boundary size can legitimately map to two EU sizes; when that happens we show both.
Do EU sizes differ between men and women?
EU sizing is nominally unisex — the nominal scale is shared across men's and women's footwear. What differs between charts is usually the last shape and the brand's labelling, not the concept of the number.
Why do brands disagree on US to EU?
